In this post I will tell you about what I have researched that will benefit our groups Film Short.
I will start by explaining what genre we have chosen and the conventions of that particular genre and how we have challenged some of them.
For our film short, we have decided that we all be using the genre of a Drama.
What is a Drama?
A Drama depends on the in-depth knowledge of different characters and the emotions that those characters are experiencing at that time, which is then related to the film.
Drama Categories.
There are many different sub-categories that divide from the main category known as Drama.
1) Melodrama:- Uses the plot to appeal to the emotional state that the audience is in at the time of the film.
2) Historical Drama:- Focuses on the past events in history.
3) Documentary Drama:- Uses professionally trained actors to play current event situations.
4) Crime Drama:- Uses crime and law enforcement to develop characters.
5) Romance Drama:- Dwells on the development of Romance and love in character's.
6) Comedy Drama:- Uses realistic life situations and puts a different twist on them.
7) Tragedy Drama:- Focuses on a sad event and magnifies it to make the audience sad, usually the main character's life and the film makers flip it upside down.
The conventions of a Drama.
1)Realistic Story Lines
2) Some form of a Journey
3) A Happy Ending
4) Main Character must have clear relationship's with other characters
5 )Realisation at the end of the film
6) Audience must be able to relate to the Characters
7) There must be defining points in the plot
Conventions that we have challenged
1) Son harming/killing loved one (in this case his mother)
2) The ending, because there are 2 endings, the murder ending and of course the happy ending
3) The audience makes up there own minds as to what really happened in the story.
This is an important moment in our film because we need to know what conventions are typically used in a film that are also used in a drama allowing us to refer back to them and see what we can change, keep the same or challenge.
